Alcoholism—also called alcohol use disorder (AUD) or simply alcohol addiction—is a chronic mental disorder where you can’t stop or cut back on drinking. It is characterized by compulsive drinking behaviors as well as obsessive thoughts about drinking. If you have an AUD, you’ll have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms if you stop drinking.
Alcoholism also occurs on a spectrum from mild to moderate to severe. Generally, most people progress from mild drinking to severe drinking over time. This is because you develop a tolerance for alcohol and need to drink more for the same effects.
Overall, if you have concerns about your drinking, you may need to get help from a rehab program.
Someone may need to go to alcohol rehab in Atlanta but not recognize the signs. They may think they can control their drinking if they just try hard enough, or they may think things haven’t gotten serious enough to get help yet. One way to tell if you need alcohol treatment in Georgia is to answer the following questions:
If you answer “yes” to two or more of these questions, then you need addiction treatment.
We opened the doors at our alcohol rehab in Atlanta with the goal of providing world-class treatment for people who struggle with alcoholism. We also offer treatment for dual diagnosis, which is having both an addiction and a mental health disorder. This allows someone who has a mental illness that contributes to their desire to drink to get help for both disorders at the same time.
When a person first arrives for treatment, we perform a thorough assessment to understand their history of drinking and any previous treatment efforts. We also ascertain their physical and mental health. As a result, we can design a roster of therapies that will address their specific needs.
Attending several types of therapy helps a person recognize their triggers to drink, resolve issues that contribute to that, and learn to avoid relapse. We also offer access to FDA-approved medications that help ease the withdrawal symptoms that can accompany getting sober.
Most people who develop an alcohol addiction try to fool themselves at some point that they can quit drinking whenever they want. This feat is rarely achievable and just delays the inevitable need for alcohol treatment in Georgia. The longer a person goes without getting structured help from a professional rehab, the more damage they incur to their physical and mental health. As well, some of the symptoms that occur when someone abuses alcohol can cause permanent physical and emotional damage.
An alcohol treatment program provides a person with a safety net because it helps provide relief for withdrawal symptoms. It also gives a person accountability because they report regularly to trained therapists who help them cross the finish line to living sober again.

Ashley Stover2024-09-11Extremely Disappointing Experience I recently attended Valor Behavioral Health for mental health treatment, but unfortunately, my experience was overwhelmingly negative. While I had hoped to find support and healing, I encountered several major issues. After serving 20 years in the United States Air Force I have PTSD, Depression and Anxiety and I was very hopeful to receive help from Valor but it ended up being a total waste of 3 months of my time, money, and energy. The quality of care was subpar, with classes that were unengaging and unhelpful. However, my main concerns were with the administrative team, who were consistently unprofessional and unresponsive. Even more alarming, I witnessed staff members engaging in inappropriate relationships with clients, which is a serious ethical violation. Furthermore, I suspect that the facility may be engaging in insurance fraud, which is not only illegal but also a betrayal of trust. What's even more disturbing is that many of the positive reviews I've seen online appear to be fake, written by actual staff members themselves. This lack of transparency and integrity further erodes trust in an already deeply flawed institution. Overall, I would strongly advise others to explore alternative options for mental health treatment. There are likely better, more reputable facilities that can provide the support and care you deserve. This review will be deleted soon since it’s not a 5 star review!!Liam Parsell2024-08-18My experience at Valor has been nothing less than outstanding. I was first introduced to Kerry when I arrived who embodies the perfect first interaction for an incoming client. The family culture they deliver to clients works and made me feel at home almost instantly. Facilitators and management are excellent.Tracy Couch2024-08-16This place does not provide food . You will be lucky if you see a therapist. They do not respect HIPAA. The owner does not live in Georgia.Evan Mccavey2024-08-15I highly recommend Valor Behavioral Health! The therapist, and the whole team goes above and beyond. I have been to multiple treatment centers, and as a 19 year old I can say this is the best treatment for anyone young or older. They communicate effectively and clearly. Any issue arises; they handle it with the utmost professionalism. The qualities they have shown to shine above all are respect, care, and how they truly figure out a individualized treatment plan that will help you or a loved one get pass with whatever you struggle with mental health and or substance abuse wise.Charles Aldridge2024-08-07Overall a great experience.
